-dehydration destroys muscle and rises cortisol levels. cortisol is a fat storage hormone and responsible for fat gain especially in the abdomen area.
-dehydration slows down your metabolism. the slower your metabolism, the less calories you burn. little trick: drink cold water and you'll burn more calories because your body will have to metabolize the water by regulating the water's temperature
-water eliminates water. whenever you don't drink enough water, your body enters in the survival mode and starts retaining water. drink more water and say good bye to water retention.
-water not only helps flushing away fat from the body but it also prevents fat storage. in fact, if you don't drink enough water, your body will have to get that water from the cells, fat cells included... if these cells don't have enough water, they slow down the fat burning process.
-ketones, a byproduct of fat burning, are flushed away with the urine.. so water. if these are retained by the body, they can have a negative effect on the kidney.
if you are drinking enough water, you should be in the bathroom almost every 1-2 hours and your urine should be very clear, still yellowish, but very transparent.
make sure you drink enough water during your trainings. always keep a bottle with you and sip on water every rest period.
especially in summer, i love my water flavored with fruit and basil or mint leaves.
another trick to make your water taste better and satisfy soda cravings, is preparing an iced-tea. i love mixing fruit teas with green tea (2 bags of each flavor/ type). i let it cool, add the juice of 1 lemon and 2 tsp stevia for 2 liters of tea. my fave is lemon or peach tea. tastes just like nestea.
