JUICING OR BLENDING?

blending is definitely better! don't get me wrong, juicing is healthy, but to a certain extent. if you need to cleanse your colon, then juicing definitely is what you need. otherwise i would really not recommend juicing. let me explain you why... when you juice fruits and veggies, you practically remove the fiber. if mother nature decided to put the fiber in fruits and veggies, there must be a reason. and in fact, there is! fruits and veggies are complex carbohydrates which, like grains, during the refining process, become simple carbohydrates. this means that the sugars become readily available for the body to absorb them. so if you eat the whole fruit, that fruit will have a certain GI. the glycemic index rises as you process the fruit... if you blend it and tear down the fiber, you already make the sugars more available. if you juice the fruit and remove the fiber, then there really isn't anything that can slow down the absorption of sugars. this means that juices spike your insulin to a certain level. we must still keep in mind that fruit contains mostly fructose so the insulin spike won't be as high as it can be by eating white bread....but.... fructose promotes fatty liver and if it's not used as energy or stored in the form of glycogen in the liver, it is directly converted to fat tissue. when you eat a fruit here and there, you don't need to worry about fructose unless you are on a pre-contest diet or a very strict diet. you need to worry about fructose when you drink a soda (which is sweetened with HFCS) or a juice which doesn't contain only one fruit, but many of them. lots of fruit = lots of fructose. hope this makes sense to you...
